Become a Resident Board Member

We need YOU – Could you be a Resident Board Member?

Our resident-led ALMO Board oversees the running of the homes we manage. It’s made up of tenants and leaseholders, council members, and independent members. Their role is to supervise the delivery of services to residents, making sure residents are satisfied with them, and to scrutinise the way we spend our budget.

As a Resident Board Member you will be getting to grips with the key housing issues facing NCH and how we’re responding to them. You’ll work closely with your fellow Board members to make sure we provide the best services. This is a great opportunity to expand your CV and gain skills and experience.

You’ll be expected to attend all Board meetings and events and undertake relevant training. You may also be asked to sit on our other Committees, and our Group Board which determines the overall strategic direction of NCH - so you’ll need to be able to commit sufficient time to the role. You’ll also be able to work as part of team, and be willing to question, challenge and support the Executive Management Team.

What we’re looking for

You won’t need previous experience of being a Board member, but we’ll expect you to uphold our values and act as an ambassador for NCH, represent residents views and opinions and act  responsibly and ethically.  You will attend and participate in meetings and be able to support and challenge the executive team.

You don’t need previous experience to become a Board member. Nottingham City Homes will help you every step of the way. The training is friendly and informal, and looks at developing communication and teamwork skills, as well as finding out more about the work of Nottingham City Homes. 

Before applying, there are a few things you might want to think about.

How much time can you give? We ask for a commitment of up to one day a month.

How passionate are you about housing? We need people with a drive to help us provide the best housing services we can.

How will Board membership help you to achieve your personal aspirations? Do you want to meet new people, make sure your voice is heard, learn new skills?

I do hope that you choose to submit an application. As an NCH resident myself, I’ve found that being a Board Member is a really interesting and rewarding role.

The Group Board concentrates on strategic matters. We also have an ALMO Board that has a strong focus on services to residents and tenant participation. There’s also an Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee (ARCC) that scrutinises risk, compliance, health and safety and development, and a Governance and Selection Committee (GSC) that looks after recruitment to and management of the Board and Chief Executive.
