Schools employability support
Many young people live in council housing in Nottingham, and we want to engage with these young residents. We can’t do this alone and recognise that working with local schools is one of the best way to extend the reach of our employment support.
As part of our objective to inspire, we are committed to working with local schools to improve young people’s transition from education to employment through our local school employability offer.
We come into your school to give your students insight into the different careers available at NCH. We aim to help inspire young people to start thinking about their future careers and aspirations.
We bring a team of colleagues who deliver interactive workshops based on their area of work. This could be anything from customer services to construction, tenant involvement to repairs.
Our Aspiration Days can be tailored to all age groups and vary in time length depending on group sizes.
Construction Taster Workshops
Our practical workshops are great for young people who want to have a go at basic construction skills. This can be anything from plumbing to tiling, bricklaying to electrics and can provide an insight into what a career in construction is like.
The workshops take place at our training facility in Bilborough and last half a day. Groups can be up to a maximum of 15 people.
Construction Maths Challenge
We provide you with some architect drawings of one of our construction sites and a maths challenge that can be delivered by your maths teachers.
The purpose of these sessions is to help your students link maths to the workplace. Sessions can be delivered in one day or over a series of days.
We can provide work experience placements for those aged 14 years and over, helping students explore the possible jobs and career pathways.
This a great opportunity for young people to engage with employers and helps to prepare and inspire them for the fast-changing world of work.
If students are motivated and engaged about their future it can lead to increased attendance and participation at school.
Interview Skills Workshops
We can either attend a workshop that your school is already hosting, or we can run a session on interview skills for your students. This includes looking at the STAR technique, mock interviews and giving feedback.
We work with a group of your students to take them out and about in our estates, helping to identify areas of improvement. Each group will report on local issues such as graffiti, litter, untidy communal areas, etc.
We come to you to tell your student all about the apprenticeship opportunities available at Nottingham City Homes. Usually this is done at a school assembly, but it can also be arranged separately.
If you would like us to work with your school, please complete our online request form and a member of the Employability Team will contact you soon.
