Creating homes and places where people want to live

Plans approved for new apartments in Clifton

We submitted a planning application to build 36 new council apartments in Clifton on the site of the former Southchurch garages, off Hamilton Court. We are delighted that the plans have now been approved.

The flats will be owned by Nottingham City Council and managed on their behalf by Nottingham City Homes. They will go to people on the local council house waiting list.

NCH has completed the tender process and are due to appoint a contractor imminently. The plan is to be on site in early 2021, with the properties complete in 2022. Halsall Lloyd Partnership Architects have designed the site.

Nick Murphy, the Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes, said: “There is significant demand for council housing in Nottingham and that demand is increasing. We are working with the council to create these apartments on a previously unused site to try and meet some of this demand. We will create safe, modern and affordable homes for local people, somewhere that residents can be proud to live.”

Cllr Linda Woodings, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing and Heritage at Nottingham City Council said, “Nottingham needs a mix of all different types of housing and due to the high demand for homes for singles and couples in Clifton, these one-bedroom apartments for affordable rent will help meet the needs of local people waiting for a home.

“Building, warm, safe, and energy efficient new homes, not only regenerates sites which are no longer fit for purpose, but also encourages investment, creates jobs and helps to support local supply chain businesses, which continues to be an important part of Nottingham’s Covid-19 recovery”.
