Creating homes and places where people want to live

NCH announced as one of the country’s top 30 sustainable housing providers

Nottingham City Homes has today announced that it has been listed as one of the Top 30 Sustainable Housing providers in the country by Housing Digital.

NCH’s commitment to sustainability runs through everything they do – indeed, their mission, vision, and values talk about how they seek to grow services in a sustainable way, and their Corporate Plan offers up a commitment to providing warm, energy efficient homes, reducing carbon and tackling fuel poverty.

Reducing energy use by providing property improvements that support lower heating use means lower energy bills and more money in residents’ pockets. For some years, NCH has been blazing a trail in greener social housing, delivering cavity and external wall insulation, solar panels and sustainable technology to help heat homes using minimal energy.

“The Government wants homes to be low to zero carbon by 2050,” says Adrian Cheetham, Director of Property Services at NCH. “We’d like to get there sooner. We’re aiming for all our homes to have an EPC Band C by 2030 where possible, and Band B or A by 2050.

“We also plan to develop a roadmap for the decarbonisation of heating in our homes, developing a Carbon Neutral Homes Standard by delivering pilot projects such as deep whole house retrofit and heat pumps, and we’re planning our approach to phasing out installing of gas boilers.”

Many of Nottingham’s estates have green spaces designed in. As well as providing exercise and play areas, these spaces also contribute towards sustainability by supporting wildlife and biodiversity. NCH residents have planted 100 trees across Nottingham, a small part of the 130,000 trees being planted across the UK to tackle the climate crisis via the Trees for Cities project, and NCH has installed 10 bee hotels across the city to help save this most precious of wildlife.

With plans to introduce more electric vehicles to their fleet next year, to continue their decarbonisation journey, and a commitment to retrofitting and using innovative methods to hit zero carbon targets, NCH is a key partner in the city achieving its CN28 ambitions.
