We’re looking for nominations for our fantastic Tenant and Leaseholder Awards – and YOU can nominate! The awards celebrate the great work our residents and community groups do. It’s a chance to say thank you to the people who go the extra mile to make our neighbourhoods great places to live. Here are last year's winners.

Tenant and Leaseholder of the Year 2019 - Gill Bainbridge
Tenant or Leaseholder of the Year - Gill Bainbridge

An NCH Resident for 29 years, Gill is the heart and soul of her Bells Lane Community - working endless hours on a voluntary basis at the Bells Lane Community Centre and as the Secretary for the Belsatra Tenants and Residents' Association - the longest running TRA in Nottingham. 

Available 24 hours a day for advice and support, Gill never tires of giving to the community and helping to make it a better place to live.

Outstanding Personal Development winner 2019 - Ossie Oswin
Outstanding Personal Development - Ossie Oswin

Ossie became a volunteer CommUNITY Mediator last year. After successfully completed the accredited training, Ossie got involved with case work almost immediately. In such a short period of time, Ossie has become a valued member of the team.

Best Older Person's Initiative 2019 - Sycamore Dining
Best Older Person's Initiative / Event - Sycamore Dining

Run by local scout leaders, Sycamore Dining provides high quality, affordable, social dining to elderly residents living in our independent living communities. The residents get to meet one another and enjoy each other's company over a delicious meal - helping to prevent loneliness and social isolation.  

Best Green Initiative Winner 2019 - Just Grow
Best Green Initiative - Just Grow

Just Grow is a community-led initiative developed by Bulwell Forest Garden, Arkwright Meadows Community Garden, Summerwood Community Garden and Windmill Community Garden. The project focusses on growing fruit and vegetables together - getting people out of their homes, away from their phones and into gardening!

Good Neighbour North 2019 - Julie Herod
Good Neighbour Award (North) - Julie Herod

Julie and her family are great neighbours. They've helped one of their neighbours in particular to help care for his ill wife and have supported him after she sadly passed away. Julie also supports the wider community - helping to organise events as well as raising money for charity. 

Good Neighbour South 2019 - John Dick
Good Neighbour Award (South) - John Dick

Everybody would love to have John as their neighbour. He trims all of his neighbour's hedges and does their gardening as well as other DIY jobs. Recently he's even been cleaning the windows of his neighbours and is always happy to report any issues to us on behalf of himself or his neighbours. All this at the spritely age of 76!

Best Health and Wellbeing Project - Evolve Boxing

For more than a year, Evolve Boxing has been visiting our independent living communities, encouraging residents to get more active by taking part in boxing sessions. Residents who have not done physical activities for many years, have loved taking part.

Best Community Project winner 2019 - Transition Sherwood
Best Community Project / Event - Transition Sherwood

Transition Sherwood is made up of a group of volunteers who have transformed a disused and overgrown piece of land on Edingley Square in Sherwood into a number of mini-allotments for the local community to enjoy.

Street and Block Champion of the Year 2019 - Diane Key

Diane has been a Champion for more than one and a half years and has been nothing short of amazing in her role. The embodiment of a Champion, she's happy, approachable and constantly goes out of her way to make her area a better place to live for all.

John is a Champion at our Garfield Court Independent Living Scheme. John has been a real critical friend to NCH - putting forward suggestions and improvements to managers to help make Garfield Court a better place to live for all residents. 

Community Group of the Year - Bluebell Hill Community Rangers

Community group of the year - Blue Bell Hill Community Rangers

A selected group of pupils in their last year at Blue Bell Hill Prmary School in St Ann's. They get involved in a wide range of activities all aimed at making their local area a more pleasant place to be and to encourage young people to take pride in their local area.

Young Person of the Year 2019 - Amelia Parker

Young Person of the Year - Amelia Parker (joint winner)

Amelia has worked hard to overcome a difficult and traumatic start in life. In 2018 she successfully completed her bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. She's also walked more than 100 miles over a period of three months to raise money for charity. Amelia aspires to be a doctor.

Young Person of the Year 2019 - Ben Horton

Young Person of the Year - Ben Horton

In the past year, Ben has faced some real challenges. But with the help and support of Switch Up - a local organisation that uses sport, mentoring, peer-mentoring and guidance to help young people, Ben's faced these challenges head on. After starting a work trial organised by Switch Up, Ben impressed so much that he was offered an apprenticeship with the company by the end of his first week!

Lifetime Achievement Award - Bill Chambers

We were honoured to present Bill Chambers a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his many year's of dedication to schools and youth football in the city. We made a short film about Bill, which you can watch here.
