The children of homeless families in Nottingham will be able to enjoy Christmas this year, thanks to the generosity of staff at Nottingham City Homes (NCH).

The hostel for homeless families in St Ann’s is run by NCH and provides temporary accommodation. Families can be there for just a few days or for up to several months.

In recent years, NCH’s staff have brought presents and selection boxes for children of all ages in the hostel, which are collected at NCH offices across the city and distributed at Highwood House’s Christmas party in the week before Christmas.

Josephine Abbott, along with colleagues Amanda Houldsworth and Andrea Townrow, administrates the scheme and collects and delivers the presents. She said:“This year, we have around 65 presents and selection boxes to give out – colleagues have been so generous.

“Working in housing, we see the difficulties that some of our residents face every day, and those in Highwood over Christmas are perhaps in the most challenging situation of all. The least we can do is help towards their children’s Christmas.

Nick Murphy, Chief Executive at NCH, said: “Times are hard for many people at the moment, but the little things can make all the difference. I hope that these gifts, kindly donated by NCH staff, can brighten up a child’s Christmas, it’s such a simple thing to do to make that difference.”
