The Promenade Heritage Project
On the 100th anniversary of the 1919 Addition Act, which paved the way for large-scale council housing, we completed a programme of refurbishment to 16 listed council houses on The Promenade, Robin Hood Terrace and Campbell Grove. This sparked a renewed interest in the history of this area we made a successful bid to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a project that celebrated the history of these houses.
We commissioned Chris Matthews to write a heritage report as part the project, outlining the 160 year history with archive images and references.
There is now a second publication of a collection of oral history testimonies. Developed to encourage people to tell their story about this area, the testimonies were collected by a group of volunteers and the report was compiled by Chris Matthews and Laura Summers.
