Renting a garage
Did you know there are more than 1,000 garages in and around Nottingham that are available to rent?
Who can have a garage?
Anyone can rent a garage. You do not have to be one of our tenants. They cost from as little as £7 per week for council tenants and £8 for non-tenants.
If you want to rent a garage, contact your local housing office and they will tell you whether they have any empty garages in the area you want or if you need to go on a waiting list.
When you are offered a garaage, you will need to come into the housing office and sign for it. You will also need to bring the following with you:
- two proofs of identification such as a photo driving licence, passport, bills addressed to you at your home (not mobile phone bills)
- your £40 deposit
- relevant bank details if you want to pay by direct debit
Where can I rent a garage?
We have over 1,000 garages in the city and many of these are ready to let to you. Take a look at our garage maps here. How do I pay my garage rent?
Garage rent is payable every month. You can pay in various ways and various outlets across the city and can ask for a rent card when you sign up. You will get a separate rent account and it is paid in the same way that you would your rent. The best way to pay is by direct debit.
If you do not pay your garage rent, we will chase you for the money.
What can I put in my garage?
Your garage is for your car or other motor vehicle. A garage is not to be used for any business, trade or professionl purpose and you must not store flammable liquids in it (other than what is in your vehicle's petrol tank).
Repairs
These should be reported to the Repairs Contact Centre in the same way that house repairs are. So that we can order your repair correctly, please be sure of the address of your garage and where it is located. There is more than one block of garages on some sites.
Giving notice to quit
You will need to give us one month's written notice to end the tenancy of your garage in the same way that you would do for the tenancy of a council house or flat. This has to be a Monday's date and you will have to pay all the rent owing before or when you hand in the keys to your local housing office.
