Improving your home

We are committed to improving and modernising your home.

improving your home

We will do this in a number of ways. For example, we are committed to bringing your home up to the standard that exceeds the Government's Decent Homes Standard and working to the goverment's agenda on energy performance.

Energy performance and saving money

Since October 2008, we have issued Energy Performance Certificates to all our recently relet homes and will be offering guidance and information on how you can save money on your bills by 'going green'. Our Decent Homes Scheme is also helping to improve the thermal insulation in our homes.

Improving your neighbourhood

You can find out when we are planning to improve homes in your neighbourhood and more about how keep your home and outside areas in a good state of repairs through our planned maintenance programmes.

Carrying out your own improvements

You can also carry out improvements to your home. We are happy for you to put your mark on your home as long as you tell us what you want to do. Sometimes, we may not allow you to do certain works, such as knocking down an internal wall, unless we can be certain that they will be done to a certain standard.

'One in a Million' scheme

We are working together with our contractor partners to develop this unique scheme. For every million pounds of work we give to one of these companies, they recruit a trades or administration member of staff.

Over the next few years we hope that our contractor partners will recruit over 200 apprentices in this way and help contribute to bringing much needed jobs to the city. More about '1 in a Million'.
